The House REJECTS H.R. 2

May 18, 2018 - The House of Representatives rejected a Farm Bill that would have made indiscriminate cuts to SNAP and reduced state flexibility and local control to implement the program. Feeding Wisconsin hopes that Congress will revisit the Farm Bill and work toward passing a bipartisan bill that fights hunger and supports our rural communities by strengthening SNAP.

Feeding Wisconsin joins call to reinstate ABAWD waiver in areas of high unemployment

March 23, 2016 - On Tuesday, four members of Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation delivered a letter to Governor Walker urging him to reinstate the federal waiver to allow Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWDs) to access the FoodShare Program without restriction in the 20 counties and 10 cities in Wisconsin with continued high unemployment. Feeding Wisconsin, the statewide association of the six Feeding America food banks operating in Wisconsin, joins with the many local groups and anti-hunger organizations in supporting this effort.

SB 474 Passes Senate Ag Committee

January 14, 2016 - Exciting news as we start the new year that we wanted to make sure you heard about right away. "Harvest for Hope" (SB 474 and AB 611) has cleared its first hurdle and is one step closer to becoming law. Yesterday, the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Agriculture, Small Business, and Tourism passed SB 474 out of committee. This legislation will increase the amount of free, healthy, and nutritious food for food pantries to distribute through a public-private partnership between the state and Wisconsin's network of regional food banks. Thank you to the Senate Agriculture committee for supporting and sharing the goal of Harvest for Hope, one that is shared by every organization dedicated to ending hunger: ensuring that more healthful food is available to Wisconsin families who are utilizing food pantries.

September is Hunger Action Month

September 1, 2015 - All throughout September, Feeding Wisconsin, its member food banks, and food banks across the nation in the Feeding America network will be observing Hunger Action Month to raise awareness about the issue of hunger. Supporters can get involved throughout the month at food bank events, wear orange on Hunger Action Day on 9/3, or they can take a "Spoon Selfie" to post to their social media.

Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act

August 5, 2015 - On August 5, a bi-partisan bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate to improve the administration of the Summer Meals program (SFSP) so that it can reach more children living in families in with low-incomes while school is out. Learn more about the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act, which we hope to be included in the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act of 2015.

AB 177 Position Paper

April 29, 2015 - AB 177 is a recently introduced bill that would restrict the food choices of the people enrolled in the FoodShare program in Wisconsin. Feeding Wisconsin is opposed to this legislation as it would adversely affect the ability of people enrolled in the program to purchase enough food for their families. Learn more about our position.

New FoodShare Work Requirement Starts 4/1

March 27, 2015 - Starting April 1, all single adults without children enrolled in the FoodShare program will have to be engaged in some combination of work or job seeking/job training activity for a minimum of 20 hours per week to stay in the program. For people who are not exempt and who do not meet the requirement, they will only be eligible for benefits for 3 months, every three years. Please see this fact sheet for more information.

The State of Hunger in Wisconsin Summary Released

March 26, 2015 - The Wisconsin Hunger Study state reports reveals that nearly 1 in 10 people in the state utilize the network of food banks and food programs in the state. Annually, the six Feeding Wisconsin food banks serve 587,600 people in the state over 4 million times.

David Lee Named Executive Director of Feeding Wisconsin

August 25, 2014 - Milwaukee, Wis. – Feeding Wisconsin, formerly named, Wisconsin Association of Feeding America Food Banks, has selected David Lee as its new Executive Director. Lee will lead the organization in its efforts to ensure that struggling Wisconsinites have access to the food and benefits they need to be their best. Lee is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader with over a decade of experience in community relations and public affairs, specializing in anti-hunger programming and advocacy.
